The Department of Economics at FJWU stands out in many respects. The courses being offered are forward looking and development oriented combination of positive/normative and qualitative/quantitative economics. The Department presently offers 4 degree programs, Ph. D, M. Phil leading to Ph.D., Masters and Bachelors in Economics.

Ph.D. Program

The Department of Economics at Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) offers a forward looking and universally standardized combination of qualitative and quantitative economics, prevalent in reputable national and international universities. The Ph.D. program is defined per HEC criteria.

M. Phil leading to Ph.D. Program

The Department of Economics at Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) offers an innovative and standardized combination of economic thoughts, which are demanded in reputed national as well as international universities of the era. The requirement for M.Phil degree in Economics is 30 credit hours (Cr.) with a minimum of 2.5 CGPA. Thesis of 6 credit hour with 24 credit hours course work is mandatory for all students.

Master’s Program

The Master’s Program encompasses a broad and diverse spectrum of courses bearing 66 credit hours with a minimum of 2 CGPA. The credits for departmental and general core courses are 54 while for elective these are 12. Students are also encouraged to carry out formal research by opting research thesis in lieu of 6 credit hours of elective courses. Besides, a six weeks’ internship and twenty hours of community work is mandatory for all students, in order to accomplish their master’s degree.

Bachelor’s Program

The Department of Economics at Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) offers Bachelor’s Degree in Economics to the students through its B. Econ program. The graduates of this Program will qualify for pursuing higher studies, both within Pakistan and internationally, in several social scientific disciplines including business, economics, public policy, governance, anthropology, regional planning, rural development and many more. The four year B. Econ Program is spread over eight semesters of rich and dynamic courses both in intensive and extensive subject specific learning.  The requirement for Bachelors degree in Economics at FJWU is 130 credit hours (Cr.) with a minimum of 2 CGPA. Students are also encouraged to carry out formal research by opting research thesis in lieu of 6 credit hours of elective courses. Besides, a six weeks’ internship and twenty hours of community work is mandatory for all students, in order to accomplish their bachelor’s degree.

The Department frequently invites renowned national and international economists and public policy makers in the colloquiums organized in their honor. These colloquiums familiarize students with the tradition of active participation in controversial and dynamic issues and debates. Furthermore, students’ participation in research conferences and seminars all over Pakistan is encouraged and facilitated.
