Students from the Department of Gender Studies Won Youth Award on Combatting Human Trafficking funded by SSDO

It gives me great pleasure to inform you that a group of four MPhil gender studies students won first position in the SSDO project titled “Youth Engagement Award on Trafficking in Persons and Bonded Labor in Pakistan."

The opportunity for students was shared with the department by the ORIC office and advertised in October 2022 on the SSDO website. Four students submitted a two-page proposal. The email for the initial selection of the group's project was sent to Ms. Mahnoor on October 10, 2022 and the project ended in January 15, 2023. Based on their research which was conducted in the Ganj Mandi (inner city of Rawalpindi), a marginal community and advocacy campaign, awareness raising seminar organized by the students for the students on campus, at the end of the project, they submitted a report to SSDO. The student from seven universities across Pakistan participated in these projects. The names of the universities were as follows:

  1. Fatima Jinnah Women University
  2. Punjab University, Lahore
  3. Women University Multan
  4. Islamia University Bahawalpur
  5. Sindh University Jamshoro
  6. Karachi University
  7. Quaid-e-Azam University

They team was awarded with a trophy and winning price of Rs. 20,000/- during “International Conference on Combatting Trafficking in Persons in Pakistan” organized by SSDO on 27-28 February, 2023 at Serena Hotel, Islamabad. Ambassador of United States to Pakistan Donald Blome presented this award to the students. Following are the pictures of the event:-
