INTER UNIVERSITY DEBATE COMPETITION HELD AT FATIMA JINNAH WOMEN UNIVERSITY

RAWALPINDI:  First round of “All Pakistan University Debate” contest for Allama Iqbal Shield was held today. The first round aimed at not only finding potential speakers but also focused upon polishing their qualites, general awareness and confidence. The contest comprised of two separate rounds of speeches in English and Urdu.

Topics of the English and Urdu debate were “Only Democracy can Ensure Peaceful Pakistan” and “Ala Taleem o Tahqeeq  ke Tasawarat aur Mustaqbil Shanise” respectively. Chief Guest of the ceremony was, Prof. Dr. Samina Amin Qadir, Vice Chancellor .The jury members included Ms. Farina Iqbal, Director Quality Enhancement Cell and Ms. Maria B. Shahid, Lecturer, English Department for English declamation. While judges for the Urdu declamation were Dr. Bushra Chohan and Ms. Aqleema, from Urdu Department.

In English declamation, Manal Ayesha of Behavioral Sciences secured the first position; second position went to Naima Binty Shahab of Defense and Diplomatic Studies while Masooma Ali of Communication and Media Studies (CMS) and Sara Noor of English Department were declared as the winners of third position. In Urdu declamation Maira Sadique of CMS won the first prize while second prize was given to Maria Munawar of Public Administration Department. Third prize was given to Mobeena Yasmeen of Economics Department.

While addressing the audience, Vice Chancellor said that I am glad to see that students participated with excitement and passion which reflects their interest and knowledge about the crucial social issues. She further said that such contest play a vital role in the personality development of the students and should be arranged on regular basis.  She said that education plays rudimentary role on our society and civilization of human society is determined by education. She stressed on that “youth can play a positive role towards community service and efforts should be made to sensitize youth to play its role for the betterment of the society”. After that she distributed the certificates among the winners.
