FJWU Organize Awareness Raising Session on Breast Cancer

Rawalpindi-The Women Research and Resource Center (WRRC), Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) organized an awareness raising seminar to educate women about Breast Cancer with collaboration Shifa International Hospital under HEC & Pink Ribbon Youth Awareness Program. The seminar dismantled all myths and overcame taboos concerning Breast Cancer and gave students the entire spectrum of the topic on basis of factual accuracy.
Dr. Hira Asim, an Oncologist was the speaker who briefed the audience. The objective of the session was to increase cancer awareness among the students of the university.
While Addressing the participants Guest speaker said, women particularly those aged 20 to 40 years without any risk factors should get themselves checked by a doctor for a clinical breast examination and a mammogram after every three years. She also focused on the treatment options available for breast cancer. She elaborated the surgical options for removing a breast tumor and role of chemotherapy and radiation in eradicating cancerous cells. Not only was this an enlightening session, but it sought to spread hope amongst young women by inviting a Breast Cancer survivor.
At the end, information material and awareness packs were distributed amongst students. The contents of these envelopes were important information about this disease which formed a part of Super Girl Volunteers program. This program aims to work with student volunteers who will pass on the information packs to friends/ family and create an impact of the disease.
A large number of students, staff and faculty members attended the session.
At the end, Director (WRRC) FJWU, Dr. Shaheena Ayub Bhatti presented a souvenir Dr. Hira Asim and hoped that the session increased the awareness about breast cancer and would help save more women’s lives in the country.
