Seminar on "Empowering Persons with Disabilities and Ensuring Inclusiveness and Equality"

In alliance with observance of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), the Department of Behavioral Sciences organized an awareness raising Seminar on theme “Empowering Persons with Disabilities and Ensuring Inclusiveness and Equality”. The Seminar was organized in collaboration with “Saaya Association (Organization of Disabled Persons)” to support people with disabilities (PWDs). The association enables PWDs to realize their full potential through new opportunities, personal choices, and community involvement. The primary focus of Saaya association is to prevail concept of independent living, inclusive education, barrier free & right-based society and access to justice, especially in local and under privileged areas of Pakistan. Mr. Asim Zafar, CEO of Saaya Association, & Manager HANDS Pakistan & Community Based Inclusive Development Network spoke on issues and challenges of inclusiveness of special persons in all spheres of life.  Ms. Saima Aslam, Project Manager, Saaya Association for People with disabilities further elaborated sharing her personal journey to live a successful life.

The chief guest of the event, Prof. Dr. Azra Yasmeen (Dean Faculty of Law, Commerce, & Administrative & Management Sciences) highlighted the contribution of the University in providing access to education for persons with special needs at the campus. Dr. Aneela Maqsood (HOD, Dept. of Behavioral Sciences) highlighted the need for setting a call of action by behavioral scientists particularly in promoting the emotional and mental health of people facing disabilities at large scale.
