Eligibility Criteria: A candidate seeking admission in PhD Communication and Media Studies shall apply on the prescribed form after announcing the admission by the University. The minimum entry requirements for admission to PhD Communication and Media Studies are:
a) M.Phil/MS Degree in Mass Communication/Communication and Media Studies/Journalism/Multimedia Journalism/Media Studies from a recognized university 3.0 CGPA.
b) GRE/GAT Subject (NTS) in the subject of Mass Communication/Communication and Media Studies.
c) Admission shall only be processed after receiving evidence of passing Departmental Test with 70% marks. In case of GAT Subject (NTS) it will be with 60% marks.
d) Interview of candidates by the Departmental PhD Admission Committee.
e ) Admission of PhD will be notified as per Fatima Jinnah Women University/HEC rules and Regulations.
f) Publication of research article in HEC recognized journals shall be given additional weightage.
(The Department will grants admissions to a limited number of students purely on merit basis).
Degree Completion Requirements
To become eligible for the award of a Ph.D , a student must satisfy the following requirements:
- The program consists of 32 semester credits.
- The PhD degree shall be awarded by the universities not before the completion of three years or six regular semesters and not after completion of eight years or 16 regular semesters.
- The completion date of PhD degree shall be reckoned with the date of notification of the award of PhD degree.
- The maximum duration shall be determined from the date of student enrollment until the date of the completion notification of the PhD degree.
- In case a student is unable to secure a PhD degree within the prescribed timeframe and claims for extension in duration, the university may constitute appropriate authority and determine the causes for delay. In event of force majeure i.e., delay on account of circumstance beyond the control of student, the university may grant an extension in the period of award of PhD degree in accordance with the duration limiting factor(s) and shall also take corrective measures in case the delay is caused due to process or administrative reasons.
- PhD extension cases beyond 5 years will be presented and approved by the AS&RB.
- PhD Extension cases up to 5 years are to be notified for information to the AS&RB by the departments. The Department will be responsible for maintaining individual files of PhD students.
- Scholars visiting abroad under any student exchange/scholarship program will be required to pay only 30% of the semester fee to remain on university rolls provided they have not attended any class in that semester. However, it is mandatory for PhD scholars to pay minimum six semesters’ fee.
- Scholars will not submit any fees after thesis submission for evaluation.
- A minimum of 75% attendance is requisite to get registered in the courses at all times.
