Establishment of Centre

The National Centre for Research on Suicide Prevention is established as Country’s first National Centre inaugurated by Mr. Riaz Fatyana, MNA/Convener National Parliamentary Taskforce on SDGs. The Centre is functional in collaboration with Pakistan Institute of Living and Learning (PILL) along with Global Mental Health Research Group, University of Manchester (UK) as an allied partners. The Centre is approved from Syndicate of the University. The facility is located at ground floor of Sports Gymnasium of the University.

We have envisioned the Centre as a dynamic centre of research with a particular focus on suicide and self-harm prevention in Pakistan is meant for innovative approaches to meet societal challenges in mental health through participation and collaboration with commitment to change. The Centre aims to provide research based information for generating evidence and utilizing research evidence for informed policy, preventing suicidal tendencies and offering treatment care models, and promoting the promotion of healthy responsible behaviors in the society. We strive to be a catalyst for mental health research to ensure needed steps to improve mental ill health prevention and the provision of care in Pakistan.

Mission Statement
To reduce suicide and mental health ailments through rigorous and sustainable mental health promotion through generating database, translational research, improved service delivery and policy guidelines.

Goals

  • Examining and conducting research by monitoring risk factors and protective factors associated with suicide and self-harm in Pakistan
  • Offering service delivery through translational research by applying research based interventions at a local, national and international level.
  • Reducing stigma and promoting positive and responsible behavior in society
  • Offering capacity building in promotion and prevention of suicide to institutions, community and health professionals at national and international level.
  • Translating and disseminating research in order to inform and impact on policy and practice.
