Collaborative Workshop of Behavioral Sciences Department- FJWU and Directorate Federal Govt. Educational Institutions

Dr. Aneela Maqsood (Head of Dept. of Behavioral Sciences) delivered a ‘Capacity Building Training Workshop’ on “Psychoeducational Model of Teachers’ as Counselor” in collaboration with Directorate Federal Govt. Educational Institutions (FGEIs, Cantt/ Garrison) held at conference hall of Directorate office. The workshop is part of the project titled “Development of Teacher’s Capacity Building Model to address the Counseling Needs of Students: A way forward to Institutional Development”, funded under Thematic Research Grant of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. The areas of training for teachers and school/college Principals include essential counseling skills for effective student-teacher interaction, understanding emotional and behavioral issues, enhancing the ability to accept differences and to make positive decisions, imparting self-confidence and self-awareness, inculcating positive attitudes, learning healthy ways of dealing with differences and how the continued learning enhances the ability to achieve successful career goals. The chief guest of the event, Director General FGEIs, Major General Muhammad Asghar distributed certificates among teachers. The Director General deliberated on the importance of institutional efforts to promote the mental health and well-being of students. He further highlighted about the responsibility of teachers to promote healthy environment in classrooms conducive for optimal performance of the students.

The workshop has marked the closing of the project which has undertaken an extensive action research along with conducting series of capacity building trainings including a panel discussion, 05 training workshops and 03 international seminars. The project has trained more than 400 school/ college teachers and has successfully built collaboration with educational management authorities including Directorate Federal Government Educational Institutions (FGEIs, Cantt/ Garrison) and with Rawalpindi Directorate of Education (schools & colleges). The collaborations were built for inclusion of policy makers/ management in the dissemination process as a key element that defines the success parameters of action research. The principal investigator (Dr. Aneela Maqsood) is highly indebted to Higher Education Commission of Pakistan in promoting the issues of national concern and development.
