One Day Seminar "Flight from Marriage: Youth Transition and Social Change"

Rawalpindi – Department of Sociology, Fatima Jinnah Women University, has organized one day seminar as a part of research grant received by journal of international women’s studies, USA for conducting study titled “Social-Cultural Stigmas and Encounters Faced by ‘Still Unmarried’ Women and their Families”

The purpose of the seminar was to disseminate the research findings and to highlight the socio cultural issues faced by still unmarried women in Pakistan to ponder on social changing patterns that are creating acceptability of delay marriages as well as stigmatized as leftover. Moreover, the speaker program and panel discussion has enabled to generate academic discussion to contribute towards constructing novel theoretical perspective/ model on the subject matter.

Guest speakers of the seminar was Dr. Aneela Rehman Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, FJWU, Dr. Kiran Nazir Assistant Professor, Center Of Excellence In Gender Studies, Quaid E Azam University, Islamabad, Dr. Sadia Saeed Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, Quaid E Azam University, Islamabad, Dr. Anila Afzal Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi, all Guest speakers agreed on one thing Singlism is not a curse , we have to enjoy our life as we want and don’t take social pressures to ourselves.

At the end concluding remarks given by Dr. Shaheena Ayub Bhatti Director Women Research and Resource Center FJWU and presented souvenirs to all Guest speakers. 

A large number of faculty members from others departments and students participated in it.
