Press Release: Fatima Jinnah Women University and One Billion Rising Unite to Empower Women and Combat Gender-Based Violence

Rawalpindi witnessed a powerful event, "Rise for Freedom - One Billion Rising Theme Song (Urdu Version) & Poster Competition," organized under the supervision of worthy vice chancellor, Dr. Saima Hamid, by the Women Research and Resource Center of Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) in collaboration with FJWU Cultural Society, One Billion Rising, and Rozan. The event took place on May 30, 2023, at the prestigious New Auditorium of FJWU from 11:10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

One Billion Rising, the largest global movement to end gender-based violence, joined hands with FJWU to raise awareness about their objectives through a thrilling poster competition and a captivating performance of the Urdu version of the One Billion Rising theme song. The campaign's powerful theme for 2023, "RISE FOR FREEDOM," encompasses freedom from patriarchy, capitalism, impunity, poverty, oppression, division, exploitation, shame, control, individualism, greed, and violence.

The poster painting competition, a significant highlight of the event, featured esteemed judges including Ms. Mehrbano Khattak, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Visual Communication Design at National College of Arts, Rawalpindi Campus; Ms. Sadaf Mirza, Faculty Member at the Department of VCD, NCA Rawalpindi; and Professor Dr. Mamoona Khan, Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Fine Arts at FJWU. Cash prizes were awarded to the deserving winners of the first three positions, recognizing their exceptional artistic talent and alignment with the event's message.
